It has its roots in psychoanalysis, but maintains a focus on social transactions to determine ‘ego states’ in order to better understand behavior (Berne, , ).

Quotations in this paper are from Eric Berne, Transactional analysis in psychotherapy () and Games people play (). A more recent book—Ian Stewart, Vann Joines, TA today: a new introduction to transactional analysis ()—is also recommended. First of all, I recommend doing some TA training. Since the book is now 40 years old and the Transactional Analysis is constantly being further developed, up-to-date literature is more appropriate.
